Every now and then, along comes an article that blows our perceptions out of the water. This article did exactly that for me. Yes, conditions are cramped, sanitation is an issue, and buildings rickety. What is surprising is the industry, the sense of community, the work ethic and how crime free the area is. The ‘slum’ is actually a booming economic engine. The impact for me was a change in perspective. A realisation that people can thrive no matter where they are from.
