I had a heart-stopping moment and had go back to my article to check, what I wrote.
I see I didn't make that clear. Amazon won't let me sell my paperbacks for less than it costs to publish and post. Print on demand is thus more expensive than mass-market, Yes. But the £7.99 I price my paperbacks are much more reasonable than £16.41. I still make a £1 before tax but I still don't sell many. Most come from Kindle sales.
I wrote the article out of frustration. I see many self-published authors get disheartened by lack of sales and I believe their pricing is a major factor.
Unless an unknown author has a big social media following then it makes sense to go low to start with and build and audience for later books.
