Is There Anything Worse Than A Cop Who Would Ticket His Granny?
Maybe if he ticketed his mother.
Officer Dribble
He was a police officer in a small town. A green sports car came down the main street doing about 10–12 over the limit. Since the Chief had instructed officers to crack down, Officer Dribble had the ticket written, even before he got out of his police car.
He sidled up to the driver, had a double-take and said, “Hi, Mom, new car?”
“Just got it,” she replied.
The procedure to void a ticket is more trouble than it’s worth, so this is what he did. He put the ticket copies and cash payment into an envelope, sealed it, and had his mother drop it off at the courthouse/police station.
The court clerk opened the envelope, noted it had been issued by Officer Dribble and commented on it being the same surname as hers.
“Yes, that’s right, he’s my son.”
The clerk stared at her for a second, eyes bulging, shook his head and processed the payment.
By the time he came off the street that day, Officer Dribble was a legend. He retired as a captain after 37 years on the job. Cops spoke of him in awe — the only cop in the department’s history to write a ticket for his own mother.
His reputation as a tough cop preceded him. New guys were wary and treated him with respect. No one ever knew he didn’t know it was his mother driving when he wrote the ticket or that he was the one who paid it.
It was the best $50 Officer Dribbble ever spent.
