It's a technique called congeries, a rhetorical device identified by the ancients and passed down through teachings. Shakespeare used it, creative writers use it today because it appeals to the ear. It's expressive, it's detailed, it's interesting.
It's also not for everyone. We vary in our sensibilities. So you are right. If that's how you feel about it, that's how you feel. My writing won't speak to everyone. I like learning about these, though. They add to my toolkit and having the right tools for the job helps get the job done. A hammer will only help you bash a nail.
