That's an interesting take. I haven't done substack but, I did a similar review after a year on Vocal. I was disappointed with it. I earned my fees back, that's all. Some stories made me ten times as much on Medium. They gave me a free year, but I never submitted anything again. A year later, they took another years membership from my account and refused to return it.
